about it but i want another kid within 2 years from now.If you have a IUD put in do you have to leave it in for 5-10 years? i am 9 months pregnant and just thinking..
You do not need to leave an IUD in for the maximum allotted time. You can have it removed at any time. Additionally, 20% of all IUD users have their device removed within the first 12 months due to medical complications or adverse side effects.
However, considering the fact that the IUD is a long-term contraceptive, and you pay for this convenience, it may be more cost effective for you to consider a short-term contraceptive such as the pill or the NuvaRing. These methods are easily and quickly reversible (you just stop using them...no need to go to the doctor to have the device taken out).
Additionally, some people (if they do decide to stick it out to get past the side effects -- most often prolonged periods & cramping, and breakthrough bleeding)...it could take up to 6-9 months to get past these. If you're considering having another baby within 24 months, it might not be worth the bother.
Just some things to contemplate.
I don't think it is a requirement to leave it in for 5-10 years. but IUDs are marketed as long-term birth control, meaning they don't want to use them for women who might change their mind about having a baby in few months.
Ask your Dr how 2 years would be, I am pretty sure it should be OK.
hmm yah they do leave them in that long. but man i would think that your o.b. would have removed it ... especially being 9 months preg. i would call and find out. hope the rest of your preg. goes well :-)
